A Thank You 🙏🏻 A Tease 🤔… and Something Special Ahead 🎉
|
Hi Reader! As we close out another year of pitching, posting, recording, refining, second-guessing, and then showing up anyway… I just want to say thank you. This community means more to me than you know. Every email you send, every message you share, every small win you celebrate reminds me why I love helping media-makers find their voices and use them well. This world we work in isn’t always easy. It can feel crowded, noisy, and sometimes discouraging. But when you have a place where people “get it”, like the excitement of a story idea, the nerves before an interview, the joy of seeing your name in print, everything feels a little more possible. That’s what I hope this newsletter has been for you. And in the new year… something big is coming your way. I can’t reveal it just yet, but it’s something I’ve been building quietly behind the scenes — something designed to help you feel more confident, more prepared, and more you in every media moment. Stick around, because you’re going to be among the very first to see it. Speaking of sticking around, make sure you’re following @BTDmedia on Instagram. I’ll be sharing updates, behind-the-scenes peeks, and yes ... some amazing giveaways to kick off the year. I don’t want you to miss a thing. In this issue, you’ll also see the two recurring columns you’ve told me you love: “Sound Bites” — quick, powerful phrases and examples to help you stay sharp and memorable on camera, on podcasts, and in print. I’m grateful to walk alongside you as you grow your voice, your reach, your confidence, and your career. Here’s to everything we’ve learned this year and of course, everything ahead. With appreciation, Bon P.S. Welcome new subscribers! I'm so happy you're a part of our BTD Media Makers community! __________________________________________________________ Bonnie's Sound Bites “Lead with the headline, not the history.” When you’re answering a question in an interview, on a podcast, or even in a pitch… try your best to get to the point first. Your key message should be the very first thing out of your mouth, and the backstory can follow if there’s time. This practice is particularly important when you're partnering with a brand. They are paying you to get their key messages out and if time is tight and you wait for the perfect lead in question...you may never get to where you need to go. Practice ahead of time to make your message match (even unrelated) questions seamlessly. And if you don't believe me...watch what politicians do! Use it when:

It happens to everyone. Try something like: You’re not dodging ... you’re still delivering value. Your job is to keep the interview on track and make sure your expertise shines through clearly.
