The Role of Functional Foods and Drinks in Weight Loss

Functional foods and drinks—those that offer more than just basic nutrition—can actually be a powerful part of your weight loss journey.

Think green tea for a gentle metabolism boost, fermented foods like kimchi to support your gut (which plays a bigger role in weight than most people realize), and even beetroot juice, which can help you feel more energized for workouts.

These foods aren’t magic bullets, but when you pair them with a balanced diet and consistent movement, they can make a real difference over time.

4 Research-backed Benefits of Ghee

Ghee, a clarified butter with roots in Indian cuisine, is gaining popularity in the U.S., and for good reason. It's rich in fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K, which support everything from immunity to bone health. The fatty acids in ghee may have anti-inflammatory effects, potentially benefiting brain health and cognition.

Additionally, ghee contains short-chain fatty acids that can strengthen your gut's immune system and promote overall gut health. Some research also suggests that ghee may aid in joint lubrication and reduce inflammation.

However, it's important to use ghee in moderation, especially if you have heart disease, high cholesterol, or metabolic conditions, as it's rich in saturated fats. For most people, incorporating ghee into a balanced diet can offer health benefits, but it's best to consult with a healthcare provider if you have specific health concerns since it's benefits can be obtained from other foods.

“Proffee” Is the Hottest New Beverage Trend—but Should You Really Be Adding Protein to Your Coffee?

Protein coffee, or "proffee," is gaining popularity as a convenient way to boost protein intake, especially for those with busy mornings or increased protein needs, such as athletes or individuals on weight loss medications.

While adding protein to your coffee can be beneficial, it's important to be mindful of the type of protein used. Some protein powders contain added sugars, artificial ingredients, or lack third-party testing, which can be concerning. Moreover, relying solely on liquid protein may not provide the same satiety as whole foods.

For most people, meeting protein needs through a balanced diet with whole foods is sufficient. However, if you're looking for a quick protein boost, especially around workouts, adding a quality protein source to your coffee can be a practical option.Just ensure you're choosing a reputable product and not overdoing it. Personally...I'd rather chew my protein!
